Coach - Position Description

Objective:

  • To lead a team of players to enjoy their sport, build their skills, and create friendships

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and motivate players to ‘buy-in’ to playing the sport
  • Organise training and match-based activities in a way that creates a stimulating learning environment
  • Use different coaching styles and techniques to teach and develop players technically, physically, tactically, and psychologically
  • People management skills to create environments conducive to the learning of each player
  • Empathy skills to look at situations through the eyes of your players
  • Self-reflection skills to analyse sessions and matches and implement improvements in the future
  • A growing knowledge of technical and tactical aspects of the sport
  • A growing knowledge of sport-specific activities and drills to create opportunities for development
  • An understanding of your players, why they want to play, and what they want to achieve so that you can tailor your coaching accordingly

  • Notify the club’s Child Safety Officer (or Committee) about any new risks or hazards to child safety
  • Notify the club’s Child Safety Officer (or Committee) about any child safety-related concerns

This role has the following child safety and wellbeing requirements: 

The person in this role must:

  • undergo a child safety screening and referee checking process before commencing in their role
  • undergo a short induction on the club’s child safety practices
  • undergo child safety training appropriate for coaches
  • have the skills to be respectful to children, empower their participation, and comply with the club’s child safety practices
  • have a strong awareness of the diverse needs of children.

This role works directly with children. It has access to their personal information and has direct responsibility for them in coaching and playing programs.
